Small-Batch Gallery Wall

I don't know about you, but I have been itching to create a gallery wall in my home for quite some time. The idea of juxtaposing many of my favorite items into one, cohesive wall of splendor gives me the warm fuzzies.

Admittedly, I have been wanting a gallery wall for a long time but have been procrastinating on doing it for a couple of reasons: 1) I live in less than 900 square feet and not only are our ceilings super low, but wall space is at a minimum and 2) creating the perfect, Instagram-worthy wall seemed to be a daunting task and I was over-thinking it.

If you are anything like me, you swoon over the possiblities on Instagram and Pinterest....monochromatic, evenly spaced, randomly spaced, vintage, modern, eclectic, and on and on. It's hard to choose and can be overwhelming.

I really wanted to do this project, but realized I was going about it all wrong. I let myself be overwhelmed imagining a wall with 10 or more pieces. How would I find so many items that I love, would work well together, and would stand the test of time? It finally dawned on me that the only way to handle this project was by taking the Small-Batch approach: Small quantity, high quality.

After reframing my mind and the scope of the project, I looked around my home and discovered I already own three pieces that I not only love, but work together. They were all hanging on different walls in our bedroom!

The first key to a gallery wall is having one or two strong, foundational pieces. For me, it was a large painting by my favorite artist Jack Dickerson. This piece has been hanging at the foot of my bed for the last four years. I adore waking up to its vibrant colors. Since I married and moved in with my husband, it has hung at the foot of our bed, but always seemed lonely on a wall by itself. What I didn't notice until I took on this project was that not only did I find my first gallery piece, but I found the wall to put my gallery on! Win!

The smaller painting (also a Jack Dickerson), was purchased to fill a space above my dresser. I made my mirror myself on a snowy winter day and it hung near my accessories (Sidenote: Igor is the name of the moose in the reflection of the mirror. He hangs above our bed and was purchasedfor me by my husband as a gift from White Faux Taxidermy). I could not believe I never noticed these pieces all carried a similar color scheme nor did I realize that my apartment had such a great wall to make a small gallery! I gathered my treasures, did a little arranging, and voila! A gallery wall!

Gallery Wall

This project cost me nothing, contains all pieces that I adore, took me less than 30 minutes to do, and looks spectacular! I think that adding anything else to this simple gallery wall would detract from its elegance and sense of quality and calm. It is a Small-Batch win!

So if you have been wanting to create a gallery wall but it seems too overwhelming, think Small-Batch!
